If you caught our post in February, you may already be familiar with the Austin SHINES project. Austin Energy, the local public utility of Austin, Texas, was awarded a $4.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sun Shot Initiative. They were the largest recipient of the award and also received $1 million from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Austin Energy matched all their grant funds, making the Austin SHINES initiative around a $12 million project.
For those of you wondering what in the world SHINES stands for – it is the Sustainable and Holistic Integration of Energy Storage and Solar PV. That is all I will share because I do not want to spoil all the fun! Austin Energy just released a new page on their website dedicated solely to the Austin SHINES project. So for those of you who get excited by innovative advances in energy storage, integration of renewable energy, and other modern technologies, check out their website at www.austinenergy.com/go/shines!
