Event Details

The energy market in Mexico is undergoing a massive transformation that will not only make the electricity in Mexico much cleaner but also create a huge opportunity for Texas companies. Mexico is opening its energy markets to private investment, announced a clean energy goal of 35% by 2024, and has new regulations that allow large electricity users to contract directly with private generators.

Expectations are that up to 11GW of new renewable resources (more than the capacity of existing wind farms in Texas) will be built in Mexico by 2024. As a result, Texas-based clean technology companies have a new market opening next door. This panel will explore the new structure of Mexico’s electricity market and discuss where the greatest market opportunities exist for Texas energy generation, transmission, and storage providers.

The evening will begin with a lively networking reception featuring an open bar, live latin guitar music, passed hors d’oeuvres, and sparkling conversation with the best and brightest in cleantech.

Our program will be moderated by Dr. Michael Webber and will feature a fantastic mix of professionals with experience from across the renewable energy value chain:

  • Michael E. Webber, Ph.D. (Moderator) – Deputy Director, Energy Institute | Co-Director, Clean Energy Incubator | Josey Centennial Fellow in Energy Resources | Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering – The University of Texas at Austin
  • José María Lujambio I.  – Attorney – Cacheaux, Cavazos & Newton, L.L.P
  • Norma de la Salud Álvarez Girard – General Director, Electric Systems Unit – Comisión Reguladora de Energía (CRE)
  • Reed Armstrong – Renewable Energy Marketing – Iberdrola Renewables, Inc.
  • Tracy Granda – Sr. Director, Global Account Management – Flex
