It’s been 6 months since the Texas Winter Storm Uri and Energy Crisis. The “essentiality” of electrical power has been brought to the attention of all Texans as a result of this winter storm event. The impact on the loss of electrical power has impacted a wide variety of infrastructure including water, sewer, transportation, telecommunication, natural gas, and others. Winter Storm Uri has exposed a number of impacts/problems in how we think about the electrical grid in Texas.
Ken Donohoo, P.E., Senior Director of Engineering with Electric Power Engineers will provide a lookback at Winter Storm Uri at the actual net generator outages from the storm and impacts to the ERCOT grid.
Alaina Zermeno, Attorney with Husch Blackwell will identify the rulemakings the Public Utility Commission is undertaking as a result of legislation passed in reaction to the winter storm event, including a status update on where each one currently sits in the process. She will also discuss the key conversations that have occurred during PUC Open Meetings and work sessions related to potential market design changes for ERCOT and generation weatherization requirements that are being implemented as a result of SB 3.
