Recently, Ecuador launched its first renewable energy auction on July 30th, 2019, seeking investors for an initial 310 megawatts of wind and solar projects.

On Wednesday, August 28th, 2019, there will be an all-day meeting in Quito, Ecuador, held at the energy ministry where details of the assets, the auction’s structure and risks will be addressed. The event is targeted to developers and investors interested in learning first-hand about details of the auction to help decide interest in participating; it will also include the presence of a number of financial institutions active in Ecuador to discuss lending requirements. Registration to this event will give you access to the August 28 meetings and the ability to meet government, off-taker, regulator as well as fellow investors and lenders.

José Antonio Cepeda currently serves as the Advisor to the Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources in Ecuador. Before this position, from 2016-2018 he served as Adviser to the Minister of Hydrocarbons in the former Ministry of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Ecuador. Mr. Cepeda is the OPEC National Representative since 2017 and is a Member of IEF Executive Board since 2018. He holds a Bachelor’s in Engineering and industrial management from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany.

Carlos St. James is Managing Director of Santiago & Sinclair, LLC, a renewable energy consultancy focused on Latin America. Since 2010 he has also been a board member of the Latin American and Caribbean Council on Renewable Energy (LAC-CORE) in Washington, DC, which promotes development of the industry. He also sits on the board of the Texas Renewable Energies Industry Alliance (TREIA), which does the same for Texas. With considerable experience in project finance, technical and non-technical project themes, legal issues as well as energy policy, he is a leading advisor to investors, developers and the public sector.

He is the publisher of the Latin America Energy Review, a very popular blog that promotes debate on the industry's issues, and he holds a master's degree in international relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in the United States.
