GridNEXT 2022 Keynote Speaker

An experienced research scientist with a demonstrated history of research and teaching, Matthew Peña is the Associate Director of the Rice Alliance Clean Energy Accelerator, where he helps guide transformative clean energy startups through a structured training program. 

Matt holds a BS in Physics from The University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Rice University, where he most recently studied metabolic engineering of microorganisms to produce value-added compounds such as therapeutics. Matt joined the Clean Energy Accelerator in 2021 and is also a valued mentor to the OwlSpark and RED Labs Accelerator.
